Why "Moon Station Foxtrot"?

I bought the name 20 years ago because it sounded cool. It still sounds cool, so I'll just say Moon Station Foxtrot is my creative space. Most of the posts on this site will be announcing shows for the following music projects.

Projects

The Jollyville Criers

Jonathan Hoyle and I started toying with ukulele a few years ago and eventually decided on a duo. We're primarily a cover band. John Denver, Johnny Cash, The Pretenders, Roy Orbison, Neil Young, Norah Jones, The Breeders, Camper Van Beethoven, et al, and we throw in a few originals. Jonathan takes trumpet solos. We harmonize. There's banter. People love us.

The Matt Melton Quartet

This had been brewing in my head for a while and came to fruition recently (10/2023). We are a jazz standards ensemble. Core members are Matt Zelenin (piano), Merrideth Jiles (bass), Jonathan Hoyle (trumpet), Matt Melton (vocal). After our inaugural show at Tigress Pub a friend reacted "I feel like tonight I saw you do what you were put on earth to do". Proud of that. And I hope she's right, because I really love singing jazz standards.

Three Songwriters

I wrote lyrics for my rock band, The Magyars, in highschool. Only recently, October 2022, did I start writing songs again, this time including the music. I write on ukulele. I discovered how rich with talented songwriters Austin (and probably the world) is. I heard so many cool songs at jams and song circles and open mics, and I wanted to promote those musicians. I started hosting a monthly songwriter showcase in February 2023. When I go up to a person after they perform at an open mic and ask them if they'd like to play six songs at a showcase, the reaction is often so grateful and overjoyed that I feel like Santa Claus. As the name implies, three artists take turns doing short sets. It's always a heart-warming experience hearing songs from folks who are keen to share their passion.
